Issues

We need a Voice at City Hall:
The Etobicoke-Lakeshore community has demonstrated incredible enthusiasm, energy and ideas in their vision for Ward 6.  I believe that public consultation, community involvement, and a councillor who actively listens, will give us a strong voice at City Hall.

Your Councillor must be Accessible:
A Constituency Office in our ward is essential. We need a councillor who promptly answers phone calls, letters and emails, who is willing to listen, address questions, concerns and issues, one who takes responsibility for how local issues are resolved. As councillor I will hold regular town hall meetings where the community can get together and openly talk about local issues and new developments.

We demand Transparency & Accountability:
The public deserves easy access to minutes from meetings and a chance to participate fully in the decision making process.  Records related to our community issues and initiatives will be available either through our ward website or in printed form from our constituency office.

Our Public Transportation System needs improvement:
I regularly use Public Transit so I understand the problems and the potential.  The public transit commute time from Etobicoke to the city centre is too long.  I will support express busses, and improvements in the existing infrastructure to guarantee reliable, efficient, clean and safe public transit.

We are concerned about Community Safety, Security and Crime:
We need to address the issues of safety, security and crime in both South Etobicoke and the entire city. Our focus needs to be on crime prevention.  We need more on-street policing, with officers out in our community, getting to know our neighbours and our neighbourhoods.

Revitalization of the Lakeshore is important to our community:
Our Lakeshore Etobicoke ward has undeveloped potential.  A progressive plan and firm guidance will create the social and economic climate to make our area thrive.  We need to do more to encourage business:  more and varied retail stores, services, and restaurants.

We need to solve the problem of Garbage and Waste Management:
A new dumping site is not the answer - it has only bought us time. Our City needs to consider innovative, environmentally sound methods of waste diversion. I believe we can achieve a solution for Toronto's waste problem through public education and by studying and implementing systems used around the world by cities who have found viable alternatives.

Mega-city is inefficient:
The new city governance does not address the imbalance between big-city and local neighbourhoods or empower strong community decision making. City and community councils should meet more than once a month.  Mega-city is not run efficiently, nor does it save the time and money promised.  We want more value for our tax dollars.
